'Celebrate Canada - 2007 - Carnival promises to be the largest ever event staged by the Canadian community in Singapore. This event is being co-ordinated by the '5-Pillars' of the Canadian community - the Canadian High Commission; the Canadian Association of Singapore; the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore; the Canadian Alumni - Singapore and the Canadian International School. We have partnered with the National Parks Board to stage it at East Coast Park - and we have the support of the Singapore Tourism Board to make this a Uniquely Singapore event - it has been posted on their website and 15,000 flyers will be distributed by STB to promote this event.

We are expecting a crowd of between 3,000 to 5,000 people in attendance on the day as there will something for everyone on the day - sports - like a volleyball tournament and hockey shoot-out competition, family activities, Canadian beer and wine gardens, Canadian food from places like Blooie's Roadhouse, fireworks, live bands, talent shows - literally something for everyone.

Are you interested in becoming a part of what promises to be an amazing event? You will get in to the event for free obviously and there will be other perks like T-shirts, hats, food, beverages ...We are in need of volunteers both to help in the run-up to as well as on the day of the event. If you want to be part of the action we have volunteer opportunities for everyone from those involving an hour or two on the day to positions on the various sub-committees working on the planning. Do you have expertise or an interest in things like Marketing and Promotions or Program and Activities or Logistics or Finance and Admin - we have a team of about 15 folks already working out the details of this event but we can always use more hands.

Hi Everyone ....

Celebrate Canada 2007 is just around the corner and we are all very excited with what is planned! Volleyball now with guest appearance by the Canadian women’s team, basketball with the Singapore Slingers, live broadcast of the FA Cup on a big screen and a variety of other activities for all ages. Please take a look at Event Info to see the full details.

On the event info page you will find the location map, directions and a venue layout for you to see how the event will look. Please note the location of the volunteer tent. That is where you will report when you arrive 30 minutes before your shift. If you have been assigned a duty by me and you cannot attend, please email me mgrant@cis.edu.sg ASAP. I need to fill the shift.

There will be four information sessions held next week for all volunteers. You only need to attend one of them.

  • Monday at the Canadian International School 514 Kampong Bahru Road, near Mt. Faber. It starts at 3:30pm and will be less than 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday at the Canadian International School, 5 Toh Tuck Road in the Upper Bukkit Timah area at 3:30pm in the Auditorium.
  • Wednesday at the Canadian High Commission 1 George Street 11 – 01 the MRT is Clarke Quay or Chinatown. One at 3:45pm and the other at 7:00pm.

I hope that these times can meet the needs of almost everyone. If you cannot attend a session, please be sure to report to the volunteer tent 30 minutes before your shift begins.

You will be provided with a volunteer T shirt, hat, Canadian pin, food vouchers and 10 dollars of activity vouchers. If you are doing more than one shift, you will get additional food vouchers.

I look forward to meeting all of you. Celebrate Canada 2007 promises to be an amazing event and something you will be proud to be a part of! Thank you to all of you, we cannot make this work without you!!
